ABOUT ME |
Hi, I'm Tracy Wainwright, The Christian Writing Coach, and I love everything about writing!
Having earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia and my Master's Degree in School Counseling from the College of William and Mary, I never expected to become a stay-at-home, homeschooling mama or an author. However, after having my second child and following God's call to quit my job as a family counselor and stay home full time, my path changed forever.
As a teenager I once had an idea of writing a book, but it flew away quickly, and I didn't think about writing again for years. After all, I didn't even like writing research papers or answers to essay questions on tests. I was a math girl, not a language girl. However, a few months after being home full time and having very little time with adults, I had a lot of things going on in my head and began to spill them onto paper to process. A few years later, I wrote my first novel, and it was awful! But I had taken that first step and ignited a passion for writing stories. |
Knowing I had a lot to learn, I started attending writers' conferences, workshops, and seminars and reading books, blogs, and other websites on the art and business of writing. I educated myself on every aspect of writing and publishing. I felt like I earned another master's degree!
Over the years, I kept writing fiction, but also took whatever freelance project I could find. I wrote for several national Christian magazines, a local newspaper, a local women's magazine, and eventually an online Christian ministry hired me to write blog posts and help with editing. Also during that time, I self-published several books of varying genres and acquired my first contract with a publisher. Then I received my second contract, which turned into a 9-book series (release dates coming soon!).
Instead of following a piece of advice I got early on, I wrote in whatever genre sprung a story in my mind. Because of that, I have children's books, a YA book, a mystery, several cozy mysteries, and some nonfiction books. I don't regret a single one of my books, but my writing focus now is to expand my book offerings in each genre.
Over the last five years, I also started working as a freelance editor. This helped me to combine my passions of writing well and helping others in the greatest way. I've enjoyed working with numerous clients and helping them not only elevate their manuscripts to great writing but also grow as writers. In thinking how I could expand my reach and help even more people, the dream of the Christian Writing Academy was born.
